is called the "Campus of Caring" because it is home to over 17 non-profit health and human services agencies that help low income and at risk adults, children and families achieve and maintain productive lives as participating, contributing members of our community. The center occupies 13 buildings in a location selcted for its accessibility by public transportation. It is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization.
How the Center Makes a Difference
To the resident agencies:
Virtually rent free, maintenance-free space frees up more dollars for programs and services and more time to do their work for clients;
The Center's Founders- Dr. Kay Glasser & Betty Schoenbaum
More than 20 years ago, the late Dr. Kay Glasser had a vision for delivering health and human services in a more efficient way. A seed money donation from the Schoenbaum family was instrumental to the creation of the Glasser/Schoenbaum Human Services Center which opened in 1990 and is now nationally recognized as a unique Management Service Organization.
Our Benefit to Sarasota's Non-Profits
The Glasser/Schoenbaum Human Services Center is a leader, an innovator and a unique asset in the Sarasota community. The resident agencies pay virtually no rent-- only a small stipend towards operating and maintenance costs. The agencies share resources, referrals and experience as well. The space is designed for their needs and the Center takes care of it, so the agencies can focus their energies on what's most important: helping their clients.
The Academic Dimension
The Glasser-Schoenbaum Human Services Center and the Sarasota-Manatee Campus of the university of South Florida have established a unique, highly collaborative partnership. It includes or will include course offerings, in-service training, a Licensed Mental Health Professional degree program and many other ways in which students, faculty and agency staff participants can learn from and contribute to each other.
Our Mission
The Glasser-Schoenbaum Human Services Center Mission Statement: Our mission is to enhance the social services delivery system for underserved individuals and families so that they may access the services they need to become participating members of the community.
